prison ministry

According to the Bureau of Justice Statistics (BJS) more than 550,000 returning citizens are to be released from prison between 2012-2013. Each year many of these individuals are not prepared for employment.  For example, many of these returning citizens have major challenges and limitations that prevent them from securing gainful employment.

There are an average of over 1,600 returning citizens per day that are returning to our communities across the country. It costs approximately $80,000 per inmate to build prisons and another $50,000 per resident to keep them in prison.

Statistics also showed that prisons have become an expensive failure.  Nearly two-thirds of those released from prison are rearrested within three years.

The current recidivism rate nationally is around 75%. And with the prison population continuing to soar, our crime rate remains one of the highest in the world.
